CEL, a pioneer in the field of Solar photovoltaic and its applications, handed over 10 Smart Solar Rickshaws to IIT Delhi on July 19, 2019 under CSR activity. Solar rickshaw is an eco friendly mode of transport on roads inside the IIT, Delhi Campus.


Smart Solar Rickshaw is a great innovation which combines traditional knowledge and modern technology to create harmony between the environment, employment needs and convenience to the common citizens. Smart solar Rickshaw is an outcome of years of efforts to reduce human suffering without damaging the environment. This is a truly grid independent mode of transport if it is used in enough daylight and with appropriate use of pedals.


CEL made major modification of age-old rickshaws, solarised the smart solar rickshaw using light weight solar module produced in its Sahibabad facility and made them safe and comfortable to both the passengers and the rickshaw driver. These smart solar rickshaws have odometer, mobile charging facility, etc. and can run with a combination of Solar Power, Human Power and Conventional Electrical Power (optional).  Some of the salient features of CEL’s Smart Solar Rickshaw are:   

  Ø   Specially designed to meet the safety and strength needed for comfortable and safe journey for passengers and rickshaw puller.

  Ø   Provide a safe, comfortable and affordable last mile Eco-friendly connectivity to the citizens.

  Ø   Solar Hybrid system for providing electrical traction support to the rickshaw puller during acceleration and tough rides. It markedly reduces strain for the rickshaw puller, making it healthy and humane.

  Ø  Low level floor and seating arrangement for comfort of senior citizens.

  Ø   Lower Centre of gravity – near immunity from toppling.

  Ø   Light weight and better-quality shockers.

  Ø  Superior Breaking System with strong rear wheel break.

  Ø  Lighting and indicators for better visibility at night.

  Ø  Capacity to run for 2 to 4 hours in night after receiving full charging from sun.
